You can blame the organizers for the current selection at car shows because they are not policed but after knowing a few of these organizers for years now I will say that if they were really that strict about who was allowed to show up then the events would be a lot smaller and the crowds would be smaller. It's hard for an organizer to start out and say, "i'm only going to allow cars that meet 'x' criteria in the show and this is going to be hugely successful." It doesn't work that way. There are a lot of costs associated with a show that isn't in your local Culvers parking lot. Venue fee's, insurance, attorney fee's (if you're smart), marketing, etc. On top of that, nobody wants to pay to be a spectator and then you hope to break even based on registered cars and vendors...
Thanks for the reminder/reality check that most of these shows are not about passion for cars but for an organizer to profit. This is why there are so many late model cars such as the stupid Aston's, a Subaru WRX and a brand new BMW M4 at the Sat night vintage races show. They pay the $50 or $60 and they get in. I did talk to a guy parked outside the show with an all original, patina'd series 1 or 1.5 Jag e-type roadster that I think he said had period racing history who was not allowed in the show because it was full, so that discussion helped fuel this ranting. His bro was also going to bring his Healey 100, but again, didn't even drive it because they couldn't get in the show.

I agree. I do not consider a new car lot to be a "car show", therefore...
Nothing irritates me (and a number of my friends) as much as the half dozen or so late model Aston-Martins that show at the Elkhart Lake vintage races Saturday night car show. They have been doing this for years. Then this year there was a Lamborghini Azenticane, or whatever their newest car is which looks just like the one before it, which looked like the one before that, which looked like...a Fiero with a body kit. They haven't made a car with any styling to it since the Jalpa, but I digress...
I lay a lot of this on the show organizers. It seems most of them are going for quantity rather than quality, not picking a theme and sticking to it.
Old man rant mode off...sorry about that.

Isn't being the only e21 up there more important than A/C anyways? I mean the windows roll down right? lol
Yes. I am a dork.

I am going (to spectate, not race obviously) but will be driving the 911 instead of the 320i since it has a/c. Feel free to smack me down over that. Air cooled 911's are like maggots up there so call me another sheep in the herd. I've only seen 1 or maybe 2 e21's cruising around up there in the last several years. Oh well...

Yeah, was hoping to meet more WI Bimmers people but I got hooked up with the '02 guy (sorry, I'm terrible with names) and everyone else hanging around the 320 took off.
My car has a couple cosmetic blems keeping it from being real mint. There's a pretty good dent in the RF fender and at some point the LF quarter was cleared over now the clearcoat is cracking. It sat undriven for a long time before I got it the end of last season and I've been spending the e21 budget on getting it running and driving properly.

That was a pretty good turnout, hadn't been there since early last year and there were way more cars this time. I thought I could just park in that Northeast lot since the last time I was there it was mostly empty, but I ended up taking the last spot.
I saw a couple e28's, one looked to be a work in progress parked back behind the shop and the other looked pretty nice but I only caught a glimpse of it leaving.

I was thinking about going. I need to change the front control arms in the e21. If I can get that done tomorrow, I'll take it, otherwise I will have to drive the 911.

I got it done and drove the car home so I am going...in the 320i. Hopefully see y'all there.

Well I was talking about the amount of total riding effort expended. Those 675's are a torture rack compared to a speed 3.

Cool! I have a '97 Speed Triple and a '00 Daytona that I use as a track bike (I know a 675 would be a waaay better choice). Since I ride like an old lady, moving up to a 675 won't help me much. I've owned the Speed Triple since '99, it has ~110,000 miles on it. Attached are pics of this outdated machinery.

So clean - nice car.
Welcome.
Thanks. I found a mostly rust free car that car that has either never been driven in winter or only a couple winters back when it was new so it is pretty clean. I say mostly rust free because there is some surface rust on some of the components underneath. But otherwise really clean, like even the relays under the hood aren't corroded. It has about 60k miles on it (documented). Unfortunately, it will need to have one rear quarter repainted due to a poor/aging re-spray of that area.

Hi guys,
bassboy3313 sent me over here to WI BIMMERS. I recently purchased an e21 sport package. I snapped a not-so-good picture of it where it's stored and worked on in the back area of my small business (laser scanning). I'll get some better ones taken once it gets decent enough out.
I had a hand-me-down 320i back in the late 1980's, which my parents were the original owners of. I sold it to a friend in the mid 1990's, he ran it up to a quarter million miles or so and it went away circa 1998. That stinkin' car was in continuous daily operation from 1982-1998 including all winters!
For the last 3-5 years I had been kicking around getting another one and finally pulled the trigger last October. It's black/black cloth just like my old one was. I also did the bavauto lowering kit and 14" Panasports just like I used to have. This one is an iS with a factory air dam and my old one had a Kamei so there will be some concessions, but the idea is to make it a continuation car.
Oh yeah, I also have a manual trans e92 328i as a daily driver.

I spent more time looking at your car than those two new Ferraris at the Lake Mills cars-and-coffee, in fact I walked right by the Ferraris. I grew up around e21's and e28's and now they're all but gone. At that time in the 80's I was driving a VW Mk1 GTI, also all but gone in un-molested condition. I can go to Lake Forest Sportscars and see a new Ferrari whenever, if I want to see an e28 in any condition on the other hand...
