BMW lists several special service tools but if you use your imagination you can create them. You will need a bearing splitter and something to press the gear train out of the input shaft bearing. Thats all that comes to mind right now

My car an E46 323i with 70,000 miles started to develop a grinding noise on downshifts into 2nd gear and sometimes the inability to engage 1st gear while fully stopped. I opted to repair my trans instead of replacement. I figured I should share some pictures of the process. I didn't document the entire process because its pretty in depth and my hands were constantly covered in oil. So far I have the trans pulled, case split and inspected my gear train and have most of my parts. My first gear friction ring for my synchro was completely shot (pictures to come), along with small amounts of wear on the friction ring for the 2nd gear synchro.

Thanks for the replies! I just bought one nick.e46!

Does that require any drilling? Everything I've seen online has required drilling.

I have and e46 and I have been really interested in getting a euro plate. I have no front plate right now and I was wondering how you guys have mounted your euro plates? I know that they make a tow hook adapter for regular plate brackets, is there anything for euro plates? Id rather not drill holes into my bumper and I'm sure somebody else had ran into this situation. Thanks for any help!

Just bought an e46 and I am looking for somebody who can install a turner motorsports sub frame reinforcement kit on it for a decent price. Please let me know if you've had it done or you can refer me to someone who has done it. Thank you!

Hello all! I introduced myself on here a few months back when I was first looking for a BMW. After much debate I finally found and purchased my first BMW! I found an awesome deal on a 2000 323i that was too good to pass up. It's a 5 speed manual with a sport package and I love it! I am sure I'll have plenty of questions but my first question regards the rear subframe. I know it was problematic on the e46s and that worries me. Has anybody had issues with it? Do you know of any body that reinforces the subframe mounts for a decent price?

I've been there! It's an awesome experience

So Ive been into BMW's for a couple of years now and I decided its time to get online and learn some more! Ive been lucky enough to actually go to Munich and go to the BMW headquarters, which was an awesome time! I do not own one yet ( I know its lame) due to being in school and because I bought a Mazda6 a year ago, worst decision ever. Im on here to hopefully find a cheap project E30 or E36 sometime in the future!
Fuel Gremlins: I think I have one.....

I not sure if you are still having issues. As for the hard to start angle I think I have an idea. I know all of the modern BMWs have a saddle type fuel tank to accommodate the driveshaft. This means that there is one fuel pump and also a siphon pump to transfer fuel from the side without a pump to the side with the pump. I was thinking maybe if you parked on a specific angle where the fuel pooled to the side with the siphon pump it has no way to deliver it to the pump side. I'm not familiar with e30s however and don't know if the saddle type gas tank goes back that far.
