E30 Radio Issues

SteelBlue

Question

Been aware of this issue since buying the car, but want to see if I can address this. My guess is the deck or the amp are causing this issue. Take a listen to the attached video to hear this R2-D2 type noise. As you can see, I’m turning the knob like 4 clicks, and it’s deafeningly loud.

Just looking for where/or how to trouble shoot as I’m not familiar with car audio.

Please ignore my auxiliary fan running in the background.

I only just saw this thread/the video. That is awesome and I think you should leave it 😆😆

can you replicate the noise anytime you want? Or is it very random

It’s every time. I’ve only been able to very faintly get some audio to come through on an AUX to tape deck. Ben had suggested possibly ground issue. But my assumption is it could also possibly be the amp. My audio knowledge is very limited.
