Day 1 progress. Purchased the definitive ti swap guide for prep. Got a little wrench time in and removed the core support and other crap in front of the engine. Then, I went over by @The Full Banana and stole @gilber33 engine hoist. Then I got sleepy. Tomorrow is day 2 of the solo S52 swap (that is unless someone wants to give me a hand.)

Day 2 progress. Completely removed the M44, trans, and driveshaft all the way back to the diff. Some cleaning and various part removal left on the compact chassis. So far I'm about 6hrs into the swap. If anyone needs any parts from either vehicle, please buy them asap so I can get this thing finished!

Removable core supports seem like they make engine removal/swaps SO much easier. Sure sucks running into headroom issues then smacking the tail of the trans/shift lever on the floor while angling things in. For my M52 swap i had everything bolted to the subframe and raised it up from the bottom with a motorcycle jack.

Great progress!

are you going to rattle can the engine bay while its all out?

It's just going to be touch ups with primer. Probably wont go too crazy on the bay til winter. About that same time I plan on painting the entire interior a medium grey. Lots planned, just a matter of money and time, then execution.

J!m on the 318ti forum. And I'll be using the driveshaft out of the M3.

Are you using a medium case diff? We ended up installing a stock 318ti driveshaft in @alexw‘s old car to fix his virbartion issues, he references J!m having some of the same issues. Everything is all in this post.

I've heard of people just using the whole thing and not having too much of an issue, so I'm going to give it a shot. If nothing else I have the ti drive shaft on standby.

getting close!

I can taste it. I need a rear subframe though.

I did order a DME with all the things deleted today, and I plan on buying an exhaust system instead of cobbling one together. It's just easier. Eventually I'll need a manual wiring harness so I can get rid of all the extra bits from the auto trans that was originally in the M3.

Who knew building cars was so expensive?

Anyway, gonna be hooking up all the things today, fill with fluids, see if it fires. If so, I'll probably have it driving by this weekend. If not I'll have to wait for my DME to arrive. If anyone wants to come hang out while I connect stuff, all the hard/dirty work is done. It gets lonely under the car.
