KaiserRolls
Just going earl mode for now until I pick up an impact and or grow a pair and pop the head off So far I've just been using a wire brush and some simple green. I'll hit it with some powa toolz eventually
HipMF
poor mans impact: put ratchet on bolt. hit handle with big mallet. always worked for me. Bassboy3313, m42b32 and GunMetalGrey
KaiserRolls
I don't want to just keep turning the crank though haha
Earl
I couldn't get my crank pulley bolt off at all. Kyle Kompas had to take it to his shop to heat it and zip it off with a pretty large impact haha
DrLeadFoot
I would get the flywheel lock pin. You can use it with the stock FW but not the one you're going to buy from me. Or use a screw driver. Or use a 2x4 and wedge it in the crank shaft. Be sure to get a new bolt as these are strech bolts and only are good for one time only. KaiserRolls
Good to know john. There is no flywheel on the motor currently

Earl
Won't fit with the engine on the stand either=/
KaiserRolls
No sir. Looks like 2x4 and impact will be the way it has to come off :/
HipMF
I don't want to just keep turning the crank though haha I've taken apart 3 M42s without an impact or anything to lock the crank/flywheel. The hammer/mallet only puts force on the the bolt for a fraction of a second. The inertia of the crank is enough to keep it from turning (much). I'm not saying it's the best way to do it, or even a good way, but it works.
Earl
Mine was done with just head and an impact. You don't want to risk cracking that block with the 2x4 method
KaiserRolls
I won't do the 2x4 thing, that would be ultimate mega last resort of all proportions. I'm just gonna hit the shit out of it with a hammer until something breaks or breaks loose
KaiserRolls
Any suggestions on where to send the head? Also will hopefully be getting the crank bolt off tonight.

GunMetalGrey
I have the crank holding tool, the 24v jesus bolts are on crazy tight. I tried everything in my arsenal, and that was with it in the car lol. Torch didn't heat it enough, and I was concerned about the heat getting elsewhere. Blocked the rear wheels and tried it in gear, felt pretty harsh. Long story short. I have the specific tool for the job now. Let me know if you want to borrow it. Totally forgot. It doesn't work with my ATI Super Damper so I can sell it to you for half of what I paid.
