Low mileage e30 1991 318is in MI, rust free that could use a little bit of work. Best case re the M42 engine noise is that just needs a new timing belt tensioner

Seems like a good deal, but seeing there is not a met reserve and its has a few days remaining tells me its going to go up, or not sell.

How about an over priced early model instead? LOL

The title is a bit ambiguous, it's a Euro bumper swapped 524td.
She was diesel her whole life, it's a US spec motor, and there are a few other clues that make me assume it's never been meddled with.

That being said, 524td's don't come up for sale often. Especially if this a**hat I know keeps buying them and harvesting their internal organs...

After selling mine for what turned out to be less than I should've (I got asking price in less than 48 hours), I think that's actually not an unreasonable price. Mine was (arguably) a more desirable color combo and had a lot of recent maintenance, but it also had 40k more miles and some rust in a few places. With the current ad and pictures they will be hard pressed to get 9.5k, but with a more descriptive ad and better pictures I bet they could get that asking price without much difficulty.

Passing along the deal that @Jdesign passed to me, I can't logistically make it work and it would cost me too much to transport and store the car from Decorah, IA

1993 M5, guy is willing to sell for $4000 obo, @Jdesign had him at $3500 and maybe he'd take less. Heres what I have gathered from chatting with the guy

  • Has rusty jack points but little to no body rust, paint looks decent (big dent on door)
  • Has spark but no fuel (just replaced fuel pump)
  • potentially a blown head gasket (because the oil looks murky to him)
  • Has motorsport door handles, rare M-technic mirrors,  M5 throwing stars
  • Has been sitting in a dry garage for awhile

Car is complete. My thought was this is easily a $6500-7000 part out. Would love to see someone here get a deal. Pretty sure just the mirrors, bumpers, door handles and wheels would fetch $3000 rather quickly.

Edit: I ended up buying it 😬

Damn. Forward me some stuff. I wonder if an e34 partout would be better then a crashed m3. Or both. Hmmmm.

It’s pretty far away and is one of those all in, or all out situations. You could make some easy money on it, but it’s hard to part out a car that could be fixed and made drivable fairly easy.

True, I was already assuming the worst with the s38 😂, definitely money to be made either way I think, or kept and appreciated as is for super cheap

I agree. Those motors are big money. I can say that after driving an S38 3.9L Dinan stroker E34 M5, I was left very unimpressed by those motors for the price tag.

Here is a quick breakdown if you wanted to part it out....

Rough high estimate on just those parts alone is $7000.

Even after that you still have the suspension, interior, body panels, etc.... There is money to be made here..

That actually seems reasonable for a 95 Daytona Violet.  They only made Daytona on the e36 for 1 year which ads rarity, it's lower mileage that a lot of e36 M3's out there, the interior appears to be decent which is uncommon in an e36 and especially a dove grey interior and he says it has no rust.  All wins for an e36.

This guy is pretty active in the M5 community.  Ironically the general consensus in the community is that the M5T is overdone and there are too many, which is pretty much ridiculous.  Very cool set-up, and a nicely done example.

There will never be more M5T’s then original M5’s. That’s like saying M50 swaps are over done.

It's at $31k with 5 days left... Is this really going to sell for upwards of $40,000?? Come on... doesn't it just start to not make sense?

Let's pretend the cumulative value of all of the parts swapped over is worth the going rate of a nice, well maintained e39 M5 ($16-17k?).

So it's at $31,000 (currently), If this thing was a stock 540it M-sport with 105k miles and accident history it would be going for $15k with 5 days left at auction already...

I can''t wait to see someone pay $45,000 for this

ps: sick car tho

@SteelBlue If only you wouldn't have scrapped the m3 shell, check out the going rate of ones with watermelon sized rust holes in the quarters and floor pans in Chicago

the new m5 is 100k, this seems like a deal to me. if i had 40k to spend on a car it would be hard to keep me away from an m5 touring.

If you have that kind of money to spend on a 16 year old car then you have 3 to 5 other cars and this one will be cool to tell your friends about.  You want this, you want it now and you want to drive it right away with minimum time invested.  $17k for the M5 donor on top of 6 months to a year of hours and hours doing the swap yourself.  If you're paying a shop its still a month or so worth of work plus $10k-ish in labor.  Unless its a WIbimmers member then figure a 2-5 year swap... I'm not saying this is some great value if it goes for $45k but it makes sense to the right person.
