  1. Okay dudes, the time has come to create a build thread. So the story leading up to the current shell I will be building is a bit long, but Ill keep it short and sweet. I purchased a 2001 330i back in June of 2017. The car was decently clean but pretty hacked up from the previous owner, the reason for buying the 330i was because it had quite a few decent mods that would transfer over to the end goal of the 323ci shell that I had also worked into another deal. The 330 i ended up needing a new engine before we finished the deal but i still bought it, with that being said I located a whole new m54b30 long block to drop in. While the engine was out I did a few upgrades including headers, condor engine and trans mounts, GAS Disa rebuild kit, HD clutch and resurfaced the aftermarket single mass flywheel the previous owner installed and a RK-Tunes performance flash. The idea behind the 330i was to get some good practice in without having to build a car from the ground up to get my feet wet at the track. The chassis came with a MG Solutions max angle steering kit, some custom true rear coils (and a somewhat reinforced subframe/rear strut towers), an ASD dual caliper hydro set up and a few other odds and ends. By the end of the season I had installed my Buddy Club bucket seats from my civic into the car as well as changed the diff to a 3.46 and picked up some StanceUSA XR1 coilovers for the front. Fast forward to the beginning of November and this 330i was completely stripped to nothing and the shell was taken to the scrap yard. Now why would I strip and scrap what appears to be a perfectly good shell? Because I was able to get hooked up with a 2000 323ci from North Carolina! Ill drop a photo below, all I have to say is dont judge a book by its cover hahah. I have alot of plans for this little 323ci, some of which will be happening over this winter and others that are more of a long term end goal for the car. As of right now the plan is to swap over the m54b30 as well as convert the 323ci to a manual transmission using all of the parts from my 330i (another reason the 330i was an important car to have for a bit) The 323 will be getting the suspension swapped into it as well as all bushings replaced and a subframe reinforcement. The engine bay is going to get done up as well. I previously had a 95 civic hatchback that I owned for 7 years that had alot of attention to detail in many forgotten areas so that being said this car will end up the same way. I plan to update the thread regularly as parts come in and are installed as well as making moved on the build that dont necessarily mean buying parts is necessary. I am extremely excited to get the car done and add my personal touches that may be a bit out of the ordinary compared to many bmws!
  2. Hey everyone, I just purchased a new bike, and bikes are expensive, so I've decided to sell my set of BBS RE 847 wheels. I would really like to keep them (aka hoard stuff), but I don't plan on running them any time soon so they are the first things to go. Specs: 18x8, et35, 5x120, 72.6mm center bore Some details: These are the die-forged version of BBS's CH, and are lightweight for their size (approximately 20lbs per wheel, with much of weight concentrated in the center to reduce the moment of inertia) and very strong. They look awesome too! You can find them on BBS's website here: http://www.bbs-usa.com/road_wheels/wheel_details.cfm?wheel=8. These are usually around $800 each new, and ECS just recently started selling them for $3k per set! They come with the original black/gold 3D center caps, and the original BBS metal valve stems. The tires are pretty much junk (225/40/18 Continental Extremecontact DW, down to the wear bars, you could easily fit wider rubber on an e36). They have very little rash, a few scratches here and there, and clean up pretty well. They do have some paint peeling on the sides of the spokes near the back edges, its not terrible but a refinish would be needed to make them perfect. These fit my e36 M3 perfectly with no rubbing or spacers needed, and would also fit great on an e46, e9x and many others. They have massive amounts of clearance for large brakes as well and would make for an excellent/lightweight set of track wheels. There are no bends or cracks. Pics on my car: Here is one of the wheels from when I picked them up, the condition really hasn't changed. I only ran them in the summer and am very careful about curbs/potholes/etc: I will get updated pictures of the wheels and any/all blemishes by the end of the weekend! I'll have them up on here first, and they will go to facebook/craigslist in about a week. Asking $1000 obo (active WIBIMMERS member price, will be posted higher elsewhere). I am in Milwaukee. Not really interested in any trades, unless you have stuff I need from my swap parts wanted thread, then we can figure something out.

  5. Hey guys so this my become a bit lengthy but I will keep it as short and detailed as possible. I am fairly new to the BMW world and struggling to diagnose an excessive white smoke on start up along with slight smoking at idle. For starters the car is a streetable drift car. I drive it on the street and abuse it on the track. Engine: M54b30, around 120xx miles on the engine. I swapped this engine into my 330i because when i bought the car it had a junk head and it was easier just to replace the whole engine based on my time constraints. While the engine was out I replaced the oil pan gasket, installed a turner motorsport saftey wired oil pump nut, replaced the oil housing gasket, spark plugs (gapped to what my tuner recommended) Rebuilt the DISA valve with the German Auto Solutions billet rebuild kit and did a few other o rings and gaskets. I did not open the engine besides taking off the valve cover. The car has an RK-Tunes m54 performance flash on it with the burble option, rear o2 delete, sap delete and evap delete. The car has headers and an intake cone filter. The immediate problem: After about half the day at the track last weekend we noticed that when i started the car there was quite a bit of smoke that floats up and into the air. It is fairly thick and stays visible for quite awhile as it floats away. Now I am no newbie to what the colors of exhaust smoke can mean, BUT this smoke is mostly white but does have a slightly blue tint (more white than blue). It has a hard smell to determine becuase it seems to be a mixture of oil and possibly fuel. There is no signs of oil in the coolant (water and water wetter) and vise versa. Fluid levels are the same as they have always been (last checked 2 days ago now) besides having to add a quart after i drove the car proably 1500 miles if i had to guess which was prior to the day at the track. As stated before the car smokes ALOT on start up (cold or warm), there is some smoke coming from the exhaust at idle (looked blue-er than on start up) and when accelerating in first and second I can see a small could behind me (assuming that after that I am moving too fast to see an immediate cloud) CCV system: Now the CCV system is no longer installed. The previous owner added a cheaper catch can in place of the system. The outlet on the valve cover goes to the catch can and the outher inlet on the catch can is linked to the 2 CCV ports on the intake manifold. When i checked the catch can at the track there was minimal oil in it. The catch can system does NOT have a one way valve in between the intake and the can (I read a few forums that said it should?) Lastly when it comes to the CCV i had to change valve covers because the original one was cracked. The other valve cover I had was not (although it was not new) The over inside of the valve cover that seems to be a baffle before the outlet on the valve cover for the CCV has been removed. (was thinking this may be allowing crank case gasses to pass quicker through the system and into the intake to be burned possibly?) After doing a bit more research I found that the valve seals seem to be another possible cause to the smoking a bit at idle. SO without doing a compression test (which i planned to do tonight) would it be a fair assumption that the next possible issue would be worn valve seals? (assuming that the excessive smoke on start up is caused by the seals allowing oil to seep into the combustion chamber.) Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this!

    e46 headlight question

I have a 2001 e46 330i with bi-xenon headlights. Im aware that almost all of the headlights are different between coupe and sedan as well as pre and post facelift, but my question is can i take my broken bi-xenon headlight internals and install them into a halogen housing from the same year car? Or can i get a set of halogen headlights and install them into my car? Thanks in advance!

    New Guy

Hello everyone! My name is Troy and i just bought my first bimmer. I live in Kewaskum Wi and have a few friends that have been into BMWs for quite some time. I personally am coming from the honda scene, I had my 95 hatch for 7 years and I just recently partially parted out that car to take on this e46 drift car build. I purchased this 2001 330i which has been already partially modded for drifting, but we already have plans in the work to build on this original purchase. The car actually had a bad engine when i bought it which the owner did not figure out, long story short from my brief research I know that the m54s have oiling issues and this one decided it had enough with 188xxx on the clock and ate a cam (the intake cam on cyl 4, 5 and 6 was completely dry and full of aluminum shavings) along with cracking 2 of the cam caps. So that being said the car is on stands getting the engine pulled. I was able to pick up another m54b30 with 116k on it and that will be getting a few gaskets and then be thrown in for the remainder of the summer. Im super excited to tr something new after being in the honda scene for 7 years. Im sure I will have some questions along the way but regardless I am excited. I attached some photos of the civic that I was building for 7 years and recently made into a rolling shell along with a few photos of the e46 i picked up. Hoping to make a build thread to keep track of the progress as well!

    E46 oil leak

So I noticed I am losing oil at a somewhat high rate(ballpark half a quart in less than 1k miles).I took a peak under the car over the weekend and noticed oil was covering a good majority of the under carriage.(made it hard to see where it was coming from) I took some pics, and my initial thought was oil pan gasket, but I am wondering if the oil filter housing could be the cause of this mess, so I tried to see the side of the block from the engine bay, and I do see some oil there as well. Lets just hope I dont need both... *vehicle is a 2003 330xi 135k CCV and VCG have been done (dealer repaired right before I bought it) FYI, I searched for a forum/thread on this but didnt see one, my apologizes if I missed it!
  9. Hello, Has anyone used the active autowerke header on their e46 325i? Are there any other brands you would recommend? http://store.activeautowerke.com/products/active-autowerke-bmw-325i-330i-sport-header Thanks Nick

    Dents/Scratches Repair

I was curious if any of you can or know someone that can remove small minor dents and scratches for cheap. Not looking to spend much at all, just hoping they can be fixed real quick. They are very minor things, but they are fair enough to be bothersome to search for a helper. Located around the Milwaukee area.
  11. Hello All, I am a new member from Milwaukee with a E30 318i with lots of work needed and a E46 325i with some work done. Cheers, Nick
