REKIII reacted to Jdesign in 72 Basketcase Bavaria Build
You will have to leave it to him @ADDvanced to share the info. I think its cooler than the Bavaria IMO.

Yeah, the swap seems very painless. Even the electronics are plug-n-play which is crazy. Just trying to do my due diligence on the porsche maintenance and audi maintenance to make sure both are as good as new...or improved!
I'll get there. No rush, have another car I have to get on the road first....per the wife, and she's the boss so...

The only input I can provide is that I have driven both platforms, but not combined. LOL From what the internet says it seems like a pretty straightforward swap. GL!

I know he got a windshield and some other parts, but I think he's been distracted with his jaguar recently.

REKIII reacted to ADDvanced in 72 Basketcase Bavaria Build
Alright boys, official build thread for a terrible idea, a Malaga 72 Bavaria 4spd. I don't know much about these cars at all, and I have no idea what I'm doing with it yet. It's old, it's cool, and I love malaga, so.... yeah. Impulse buy. Honestly I have too many cars but friggin Jason sent me this and years ago I sent him an e30 convertible that he's spent a ton of money on without it being roadworthy yet, so maybe he's trying to get me back. idfk. Anyway, knew the seller already (Ralph is legit) and he got this as a package deal with another car, out in Kansas. Wanted to move it before winter, and since the windshield is all smashed out, it was taking up space in his garage, had to go, left with me:
TLDW, Kansas car, last registered in 81, car is solid and complete, interior is nice(ish), exterior is shot, trim is all there, no major corrosion other than 2 small holes in front footwells, lower door skins, and spare tire trunk area. Oh yeah, front valance is smashed, hood and grill are smushed, and both front and rear bumpers are tweaked, so that's fun.
Dragged it home, girlfriend is pretty stoked about it:
Had to get it inside ASAP because of rain
Mechanically, car is all there, hasn't been touched with the exception of an electric fuel pump on the firewall, but nothing works. Brakes don't do anything, tried bleeding them, can't get any fluid to come out of the calipers, guessing all the lines are clogged. Clutch pedal doesn't feel connected to anything/dry/full of air, so no idea on that, e-brake worked once but then froze up and still drags.
Key is hilarious:
Pulled the plugs and was going to soak the rings to see if it would turn over:
, hoping I could revive the engine, I was bummed to find corrosion on spark plug #3.
Confirmed my worst fears with an endoscope, cyl #3 is full of coolant, and has probably been that way for 40+ years. Super bummed.... however....
I happened to find an M30B35 w ECU + Harness for sale about an hour from my house. Went to check it out, checked oil, scoped cylinders and things looked okay, and the guy who sold it to me had done a headgasket/valves on this thing about 4k before the car was smashed...so:
Degreased, pressured washed:
Pulled plugs, sprayed fogging oil and a bit of marvel mystery oil down each cylinder, reinstalled plugs and spun it over a few times, and shoved in the garage for now.
I typically document my builds on youtube, so here's the first video of the series:
I have no idea where this is going yet, but I think it's rad.

This destroys racecar parts.
This is Danette, my fairly new daughter person. She first started moving around in the womb on a parade lap around Road America in the e91, so hopefully that's foreshadowing.
M3 isn't in storage yet because she popped out the day I was going to take it to my storage unit. Also, if anyone needs to store anything for winter let me know, I have all kinds of space, unit is located in Port Washington.
Also, I'll be offering my tig welding services over the winter. I'm setting up to work on various things for the M3 (like reinforcements, exhaust, etc) so I'd like to make some extra scratch while I'm off work on FMLA with my wife and daughter. Let me know if you want to bring your parts to Glendale and have me strike an arc on em.
No real updates on the M3, sales haven't started on parts so haven't bought anything. Hopefully I can drop the rear sub shortly after parking it so I can do good things with that.

How about for every month he doesn’t work on it, we replace one random (preferably hidden) stainless fastener with a zinc plated one until it gets worked on again?

REKIII reacted to HipMF in BIKES!
I did a 48(!) mile mini-adventure over to DeForest this morning to explore the fancy-pants bike path they have over there. The battery was still hanging on when I got back, but I'm pretty sure it was just about done. I'm obviously pedaling a fair amount, but my legs feel a lot fresher than they would if I tried something like that on my mountain bike.
I've racked up about 270 miles on this thing over the past couple weeks. Mostly going to work and shopping trips, but a couple joy rides obviously. The small wheels make the bike really agile and nimble, but the ride quality definitely suffers. I tend to cruise at around 12 mph, and only really put the hammer down when there nice smooth pavement.
Overall, I really like this thing. It's been a lot of fun to cruise around on and suits my needs really well. I did have some quality issues out-of-the-box though. UPS had obviously had their way with it. The battery was just laying loose in the bottom of the box. On my 2nd ride, I had it pop off of the bike and go skidding across the asphalt. The source of the problem turned out to be some loose hardware in the battery holder. That's fixed, but I still have a few wraps of electrical tape on there as cheap insurance. Looks a bit janky. There's also a tolerance issue between the front sprocket and crank spider which made getting the chain tension dialed in pretty difficult. Nothing too major IMO, but it would be nice not to have to deal with these kind of things on a brand new bike. I've heard that Propella's customer service is good, so I could probably go back to them, but so far I haven't bothered.

Just make sure that once the seat is strapped in and snugged down, you give it a couple pats and tell yourself “that’s not going anywhere”. Only then, are you truly a dad.

So what did you guys do this weekend?

I was a child once and it sucked. Not much else to add to this discussion...
Changed up my bag a bit today, but still got the best results from the old pen-f zoom, albeit with some assistance from a +2 diopter (aka close-up "filter").
