  1. Let’s take a ride on the bugline trail and water balloon JOEBD2’s house 👍

Cant go wrong with Trek. Don’t overlook Giant or Marin as good budget options. As the worlds largest bike frame producer Giant makes frames for Trek and many others. They usually end up having slightly higher end components at the same pricepoint.

W&S has become a Giant dealer within the last few years so they are easy to come by.

    Checkout www.99spokes.com

it has a great comparison tool which helps you understand where on the totem pole certain components rank.

    Where is @B C?

    “How are you gentlemen!!”

I am alive but partaking of the car hobby in a much more manageable and scaled back manner.

The way I was trying to do it before was not in balance and not a good fit for my lifestyle.

Appreciate you thinking of me! Are you still involved with RA?

Good to know. Is this the infamous getrag rattle I always hear about? It’s just an annoying noise and not indicative of anything worse correct?

yes, you will get gear rattle in any gearbox when you have a lightweight single mass flywheel. It is an inevitability. Multiplate clutches make their own weird noises. Manual transmissions always have and always will be just a little bit clunky in certain conditions. I was always curious to see if Redline shockproof oil would cushion the gears and reduce the noise. Ultimately its the same reason why it’s stupid to run a solid flex disk or “guibo” which the entire damn world spells incorrectly and I will never forgive them. Lets all agree to call it a flex disk and never say anything that rhymes with guido.

Engine power output is in pulses and the deceleration between pulses opens up the gear lash. This is less prominent with a heavier flywheel as there is less deceleration between pulses. It’s happening in every gearbox, just less noticable/audible. The dual mass flywheel eliminates this.

Embrace the fact that its manual. Dont expect perfection. Install a really good shifter, freshen up everything you can, and make the experience of rowing gears as magical as it can be.

Glad it made it! USPS folks working the counter were a bit confused about the mailing address. In the time it took to explain that yes it was an actual street address, I felt I could have almost driven out and left it on your porch.

Was it the taller shorter haired gentleman at the far left counter?

I have seen this car posted for sale multiple times over the last 10 years starting out looking mint with 70k on it. The previous owner seems to have let it go mechanically/cosmetically. It was for sale 3 weeks ago for $1700, not running, in oconomowoc I believe. It has been cleaned up a lot for this current ad

  6. I know I say this a lot, but we have a really great group and I always look forward to the picnic. I have made a lot of really great friends through this hobby.

I was most inspired by the blue e92 335i automatic, open diff, with brakes, suspension (stock sways),  and “FBO” mods which according to the owner, has 7000 track miles and ran a personal best 2:37 at RA.

  7. Auto to Manual coding in NCSExpert:  All credit to 50sKid on youtube for the information. He had some trial and error in his video but I consolidated the correct required steps for future reference:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiBr1h9j0bU

    NCS Expert

    1)      File>Load Profile>Expert mode (or Factory Coding,  depends on which version of NCSExpert you have)

    2)      Go to “F1 VIN/ZCS FA”>”F3 ZCS/FA f.ECU” (reads vehicle order from module)

    3)      Select E46 Chassis

    4)      Select AKMB

    5)      Select “F2 Enter FA”, ignore incorrect VIN, click OK

    6)      Remove $205 (automatic transmission control module) from vehicle order by selecting it from the list and hitting the delete key.

    7)      Hit “OK” to exit

    8)      Click “F6 Back”

    9)      Click “F4 Process ECU”

    10)   Select AKMB, click “OK”

    11)   Click  “F2 Change Job”

    12)   Select “FA_Write” , click “OK”

    13)   Click “F3 Execute Job” watch for it to show “job ended”  under AKMB

Now write the updated vehicle order to the ALSZ module:

    14)   Click “F1 Change ECU”

    15)   Select ALSZ

    16)   Verify that JOBNAME = FA_Write, if not,  select “F2 Change Job” to “FA_WRITE”

    17)   Click “F3 Execute Job”

    Exit NCS Expert

    18)   Open NCS Expert to check that $205 is gone from the vehicle order (steps 1-5)

    19)   Click “F6 Back”

    20)   Click “F3 Process Car”

    21)   Click “F1 Code Car” (these steps reset everything to default, this will not undo the $205 being removed from vehicle order)

    22)   If trans icon is flashing, unplug transmission control module.

    23)   Unplug blue connectors near DME (GM Module)

    Run INPA

    Clear error memory

    Clear adaptations

You will know you are successful when the gear indicator on the instrument cluster is no longer illuminated (will not show a gear icon, will not show "P, R, N, D, or S", nothing) and the car can start with the clutch switch/clutch pressed

@B C is probably the expert on this topic, but last time I had it (before the picnic 2 years ago haha) the one on Capitol/124th in Tosa was the only one in the area that did breakfast

Breakfast burritos are still only served at the Tosa Qdoba. Well worth the detour if you are in need of sustinance.
