  1. I lied.

In the interest of true vanity, there are a couple albums I bought 2 copies of because they were cheap and I figured they would gain value. Turns out I was right in both cases. Both of these were ~$8 records and now sell for ~$30. Guess I should unload them and make an amazing ~$30 profit after 5-10 years

Stoner rock. Both sides are ~20-minute jams.

This album is heart-breaking/infuriating. The pop-y 80's songs are all about a friend of the bands that went through a terrible relationship with some total d-bag and eventually died of an overdose. I really like this album, but can also barely stand listening to it.

  2. Automated vanity search

I sold a bunch of stuff on discogs ~5-7-ish years ago. I logged back in today to do some vanity searches to see if any of the stuff I bought years ago has appreciated in value. Turns out, I had actually entered a substantial portion of my vinyl collection into the database there back-in-the-day. Sorting by highest median price for maximum vanity...

Predictably, this John Zorn LP is still the best performer because I knew it was worth $50-100 when I bought it for $20 at HPB. Someone F'd up pricing this one (avantgarde grindcore jazz etc (1990)).

There were a few surprises on the list, but this might be the biggest one for me. This was one of a few different 2-piece bands that I was interested at the time. The drummer (Zach Hill) went on to do some other stuff, so maybe that explains the interest in this album...?

Another surprise was this re-issue of a 60's LP. I took an interest in the Cadet Concept label primarily because of the band Rotary Connection which was a hit in this region back-in-the-day. That album and this one have both been sampled frequently by an assortment of hip-hop artist.

Tracy Chapman. Not much else to say here. It's from 1998 and unless it gets re-issued it will probably never go down in value.

Another surprise. Lunk-head rock 'n roll from 2008 Austrailia. Goes for more than double the original sticker price.

Going farther down the list gets into wierder/boringer territory, so I guess I'll stop here...

  3. I still have my copy of Nirvana's Nevermind that I got from BMG as part of my 20 CDs for $0.01, but honestly wasn't a huge fan of them until I hit my mid-30's. Unlike most bands which (hipster voice) "Their first album was the best, but it just slowly got worse after that"; Nirvana's last album was their best IMO. Radiohead is the only other band I can think of off the top of my head that follows that arc.

Edit: It never stops amusing me that someone named "Cleveland" sharpied their name onto my copy of "In Utero" that I bought used for $0.50 or a buck, what with the cross-dress dude and what-not...

This last weekend was the first fvscc event at USAIR. For this event they ran the layout backwards which was a first for me. They also usually cap the event at 100 cars, this one had 137. Ended up placing 1st in XSB and 3rd overall raw time.

I missed this one. You've definitely progressed since the days when I was almost keeping up with you in my jalopy. Nice work driving the piss out of that thing!

Left vs Right is a distraction. It's been this way since the beginning of "civilization". I don't have any solutions, I just wanted to point out that "civilization" is the legalization of theft from the masses for the benefit of a few. Surely this 18 yr old has a much greater economic value than you or I, lol. Sorry, I'm a bit behind on the news.

  6. Getting ready to move across town so my commute isn't so long and I can hopefully bike to work again. Pulled this one off the wall and out of the frame and slapped it on the turntable. The dynamic range of vinyl doesn't come close to CDs, but regardless, it's obvious this one was intended to be played loud. Really loud. Sorry neighbors. (Ominous tones)

  7. Oh, there was rock climbing too. Here's our old friend Ben on pitch 8 out of 11 on a climb called "Prime Rib".

This pitch was my first outdoor lead, and the climb in general was my first multi-pitch adventure. I've wanted to do something like this since I started climbing, so it was pretty cool. Fun, but long.

    On to the next challenge...

    PS: Here's a picture of a lake:

  8. Went out to Jefferson swap meet/car show for something to do. Really strange being at a swap meet after a few years away. It's It's own sort of culture I guess... Turnout wasn't great because of the weather. The only thing I bothered to take a picture of was this barn-find Camero. It looked it had been fixed up just enough to get running and driving, but left as-is otherwise.P4290028.JPG
